I think it all boils down to personal preference. I can see your point of view--I understand that mastering different kinds of enemies can be engaging in RPG's, but I'd really just rather be the one commanding the army that your character is part of. It's not that I find the former boring, it's just that I find the latter much more interesting. I don't know, personal preference.

Alright. :)

So, are there any particular types of RTS games that you're looking into? I could recommend Universe at War to you, since it has its own version of bigger, better Mumakil that can one-shot enemy buildings by stepping on them.

I haven't played it in a while and the campaign is fuzzy to me, so here's the best summary I can do: It's about these 3 alien races that come to earth while at war with each other. The Novus are a race of machines with advanced technology, the Hierarchy a race of big aliens that create massive machines of war to conquer other races, and the Masari are these deific beings that create really awesome weapons and can alter the traits of their entire army.

What I really like about this game is how you fight on earth but play as aliens who are clearly far more powerful. It gives you a sense of importance in every battle compared to other RTS games where each army belongs on the maps they fight in. Since I played this game a lot as a younger kid, I can't provide a deeper analysis of the way the game works, but I do know that it has no RPS system. ;)

The best part of the game is the music for sure, but I also think that it offers a lot of really fun stuff to do in late game battles, because there are so many upgrades to get and a healthy choice of units per faction. Look into it. :)

I looked a little into this game and I do admit, it does seem pretty interesting. The Masari seem to be the faction I'd likely play as so far, but can you give me more info on the other two factions, anyway? Specifically, can you tell me about their playstyles? It'd be fun to use the one that either A) requires the most planning and the most powerful units, but with lower numbers, or B) goes "OH SHIT THE ENTIRE FIRST WAVE DIED SEND IN ANOTHER BUT TWO TIMES BIGGER."

Actually, I take back what I said earlier, Humans FTW! Forget that humanity's practically been wiped out, s'all chill, still got a solid chance of winning, as long as I show up in their team. But seriously, though, ridiculous underdog situations like in this game, where a small army tries to make a stand against a galaxy-wide thread, are super-duper fun and I'd probably spam Marines through all levels in the game, given the option.

Anyways, what I don't understand, though, is that if the Masari and Humans seem to be extremely limited in number and that the Hierarchy have literally "more worlds than [we] have stars," (so that's literally at least 100 billion Hierarchy planets) then shouldn't they be able to completely annihilate all of Earth and the Novus with surprising ease?

I haven't played it in a long time, so you probably already know more than me. I'll give the game a few goes now and give better information afterwards.

One of the game modes involves going around all of earth and conquering it country by country. You have a spaceship fly around your units, but there's a limit to your arm size as you carry them around. That might explain why the Hierarchy don't just send all of their forces to one spot. I imagine that they're so large that they attack multiple planets at a time with different sets of forces from various planets. After all, I imagine that some of those 100 billion are pretty far from Earth and would be impractical to send all the way over there. Maybe in another game, there will be 100 billion planets' worth of units in an army.

The Masari are closer to playstyle B in my opinion. They don't have units that are as part or powerful as other troops in Novus and Hierarchy, but they can replenish an army after attacking much more quickly, since fallen vehicles spawn an infantry unit whose machine can be rebuilt. So, they are good at making quick, powerful armies, as well as keeping their units alive for a long time with good play.

The Hierarchy are definitely option A. You have to get a giant Walker to spawn units from or just attack. Most of their troops are pretty tanky, I remember that the Hierarchy Grunt beats basic infantry from the other 2 races no matter what stage of the game. Their late game units do a lot of damage, too, like their Flying Saucers and Phase Tanks. Walkers themselves when upgraded are by far the hardest to kill. Mumakil have about 10% of the lifespan of a Walker. Get one with full attack upgrades and just send it in behind some other units. You can keep spawning troops from the walker even once it's moved far from your base, so you can spawn more troops inside of the enemy base. The best tactic is to spawn Brutes, who are building killers, or just make grunts to protect the Walker as it steps on all the enemy structures to instakill them.

Novus are a lot like Men in BFME 2. They have weaker, spammier units to start but can get really powerful troops later. Antimatter tanks are so great with their deep voices and awesome attack style, planting bombs on enemies that explode a little while later. They can also set up poles around the map that enemies can't see or attack which allow them to move around the rapidly map by teleporting to each pole. They also get 2 powers instead of one, an EMP to freeze units and a Black Hole to finish them off.

The only thing that might seem lacking is the heroes, since you only get 3 per faction and some aren't as good as other to me. Melee heroes are particularly useless against large armies. I always like having a leader unit for my army, but there aren't any that really support your soldiers. They're just stronger, more expensive units. At least they do have some fun powers and are actually really strong. The 2k heroes are all the best.

Arrrgh, I don't know hao to reply to this ;-; I don't really have anything else to say, only that I don't mind not having a lot of heroes. To be honest, I never liked Heroes, anyway, I'd much rather have normal units.

But yeah nuuuu ;-; .
