For all you Nintendo fans, really sad news. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata just died from bile duct growth. We'll really miss you... :(

That's still sad to hear, but wasn't Myiamoto the guy "pulling the strings" back at Nintendo? He was just a programer, then?

All my NES knowledge comes from the AVGN, which isn't so much.

Iwata was pretty instrumental in bringing Nintendo back to the fore in that last decade or so. He was one of the first (if not the first) Nintendo president to come from a game development background (he used to work for HAL laboratories as a programmer on the Kirby games back in the 80's before working for Nintendo). That gave him unique insight into the process and was key to his success in his role as president. But by and large his focus was on making fun and entertaining games. I'm seriously worried now for Nintendo's future in his absence :(.

Iwata was a digital toy maker.

He is one of the fathers of mobile gaming.

It's a sad and way too early end for a real innovator. :(
