Target-priority. A convenient, flexible version of "Target-locking". Instead of manually pointing your units to a single target, units will automatically shoot certain enemies based on importance. Options are:

> Any enemy in range (default)
> Armored (mechas, vehicles, tanks)
> Aircraft
> Buildings
> Bosses

So if your mecha has its priority set to "Armored", then it will initially shoot any foot soldiers in range, but as soon a tank comes in range, your mecha will ignore the foot soldiers and shoot the tank. After the tank is destroyed or is out of range, your mecha will automatically switch back to shooting any enemy in range. There could also be an option where units reserve their special skills for only priority targets, and use normal fire-power on other enemies.

Oohoohoo, yes, ^^^very important suggestion.

To add: we should also try autocasting and smartcasting some spells.

Spellcasters are really a major problem for games that aren't very well polished. When you have a whole group of units that all have abilities, it can be a major hassle to manually cast each of those spells. Autocasting, though, pretty much solves this. I'm sure most of you know what it is: basically a feature that lets certain units automatically cast spells on their own and without your help.

Another problem is when you have one group of the same unit, and when you tell one of them to cast a spell on a specific area, they all end up doing it, wasting damage potential. Some games have a smartcast feature to help with this--basically when you have a group of spellcasters and you want one to cast a spell, only one will actually do it. The problem with this, though, is finding out which abilities should have smartcast and which should not.

But yeah, either way, it's better than having inefficient spellcasters.

I wrote:Adding on to Target Locking:

only lock targets, but if you could set
units to attack a certain type of enemy
unit. And, if you were able to set units
to attack enemy units with only a cer-
tain amount of health or less/more than
that certain amount of health, that would
also be appreciated. (The thing about lock-
ing to targets with a certain amount of
health could be achieved by having 2 but-
tons appear above units when they are
selected. One button makes that unit att-
ack heavy enemies and the other makes
them only attack light enemies. I'm not
totally sure on how you could make them
attack certain enemy types, but that would
still be epic.)

I suggested something very similar to what Kevin just said in ^that post. I have yet to see BBB add it to the OP. ;)

Has anyone received messages from the Iron Marines newsletter? I subscribed to it but haven't gotten any info yet, despite the alpha test video being up for days now.

I've been wondering about this myself. It is strange that we haven't received any information yet. :?

I have not got anything either. If you are wondering why I am posting it is because I've decided to post not as frequently but still post.

Oh, good. I was just scared that you might be like Simmonds and Pepe, foeing people after one instance of disagreement. :)

Stop. That argument is over. Part of me wants to defend Simmonds and Pepe with evidence of them giving you more than one chance, but the whole debate has ended now forever.

Back on topic:

Ironhide should show good support and be helpful to the modding community, an overall first for the RTS market. It's the kind of piss-poor support Obsidian gives NWN2 or GPG gives SupCom, and the rushed nature of the expansions and game content, just like NWN2 and SupCom, that makes games die very quickly. When a developer doesn't care about what he's producing, what he produces tends to be garbage.
