From what I saw units regain health when out of battle similar to what you would see in Kingdom Rush. I didn't see any abilities that allowed you to heal units other than having a reprieve from the fighting.

FeedDaKingdom wrote:also are you always limited to 2 squads of marines, what happens if one of the 3 marines in a squad die? do you get to reinforce the squad with a fresh marine?

You aren't just limited to two squads of marines. There were a couple of missions where you could have up to three, and I would guess you could do more even. To increase the number of squads there was an item on the map that you had to capture and that would increase the total number of squads you have so exploring the map was important so you could have those extra units.

If one of the three marines in a squad dies you eventually get reinforced with another marine. They get teleported into the group. If all the units die then you need to build a new one in your base with the resources.

Big Bad Bug wrote:What an you tell us about the spells you had available? Also, did any units have special powers? Did any enemies have any?

The only 'spell' (similar to say meteors from Kingdom Rush) that was available was the turret that can be dropped down on the map. It drops in and will fire on enemies etc and was on a cool down. I found it very useful and was great to be able to add a little extra firepower to a battle or distract and enemy as you move in.

The other items on that bar were the large orbital strike that dropped missiles on a large area, the single bomb that drops and does small damage, and the resource cube which would grant you 50 resources instantly.

I didn't notice any special powers that the heroes had that triggered automatically. The only powers I saw were the ones that you could trigger like the rapid fire or shield for the marine. Similarly I didn't notice any special powers from the enemies but for the most part they all appeared to be pretty basic foes as it seemed to be the beginning of the game.

Not that I saw in the build I played.

I think I read somewhere on the forum here though that they wanted to have more story in this compared to Kingdom Rush so I wouldn't be surprised if we saw something like that.

What do you think was the highest possible amount of squads achievable?

Hmm, that is a tricky question. I could see having several but you wanted to be able to move them all together five or six would probably be the max you could fit in the circle along with your hero to move everyone around all together. That might not be necessary, moving them around by themselves wasn't that difficult, or you could have a couple groups working on different objectives.

The maps I saw were decently sized, but any more than that would likely be too crowded. Later maps could be much bigger though so they could up the max on those.

You mentioned two mechs that were available to you. What were the flamethrower mechs additional capabilities (if any) and what was the other mech? (Design, function etc.)
How many mechs were there in total- locked & unlocked?
Did you get to see what the third, locked out troops were??
Thanks.

The first mech was a machine gun mech essentially as it had guns on its hands. It didn't have any particular powers that I noticed, but was a sturdy unit that could take some damage back. The other was the flamethrower mech so more close range and dealing damage out in front of it. There was a third option for the mechs but it was locked.

I didn't get to see them in action but I assume the third marine unit type is the one seen in the trailer for the game. The one with the buggy eyes on the helmet that shoots the blasts of the plasma/energy/whatever it will be.

I didn't get to see the other options at all besides the alien ninja type units that were with me for the escort mission that I played.

How exactly does one acquire mechs in the game? Do they take command points like Marines, and if so, how many compared to the marines?

What happened when your hero died? Did it happen often? Also, how were the heroes' quotes?

Mechs came from a different building I believe but I didn't build any they were specific to the map, so preset that you could make them almost. They took a single command point like a squad of marines. So you had to decide if you wanted the single mech or a set of three marines.

The only time I remember my hero dying was when he was crushed by a meteor. Similar to marines in a squad, when he came back he teleported in. As for the quotes I couldn't hear really well so I can't say anything about them unfortunately.

The unit that I had to escort wasn't annoyingly low on health they were reasonable. Probably about the same as a marine, so not so squishy that they couldn't take a few hits.

I had kinda described the enemy types earlier in the thread but you have you usual type of enemies really for an RTS. There are smaller melee and ranged enemies, some tankier enemies, and some smaller swarm type enemies as well that I saw. There were also some turret style encampments next to the enemy bases that we had to take out as well. It was a good mix and certainly felt fresh across the few levels that I played.

Did you ever encounter the pinkish slug creature found in the pic below? If so, what did it do? (I'm just interested in that enemy 'cause it looks really cool, BTW.)

I never encountered that particular enemy, as that one seems to have a green belly and is coloured differently from the ones that I saw. The worms that I did see were more plainly coloured and just seemed to inch along towards you. I did have one reach my base and he crushed the turret he came up against so the ones I saw seemed to be slow moving heavy damage dealing units.

You seem to be giving deliberately vague enemy descriptions. Do you think you could describe the aesthetics of some of the enemies, in terms of the general design etc. Just choose a few of your favorites.

I think he was just rushing through as he played the game to get as much done as he could while he was there, so he probably isn't able to give super-detailed descriptions of enemies and minor things, since he probably didn't pay too much attention to them. ;)

This is pretty much on point. I was playing it for the first time and just trying to survive and enjoy the game. I wasn't specifically on a mission to try and notice the details I was just pumped to play so it is kind of hazy on stuff that I didn't have to specifically focus on. I mean I did see some of the enemies in the GDC video, but none of the ones with the green that seemed to have powers, they were more the plainly coloured versions of the grunts and the worms and the jelly fish type things. They were cool, but didn't have anything in particular that stood out to me about them I guess.
