Ask the Studio

Do you have questions for Ironhide?

We can answer!... Most questions at least (very personal questions will probably be ignored).

If you are experiencing problems with the game, then it's probably best to write to <[email protected]> describing your problem and letting us know what device and OS are you using.

Also, please refrain yourself from answering questions posted by other Forum members. It promotes off-topic conversations and it makes it hard to keep proper tabs on all the questions left unanswered. Not to mention that this Thread offers a direct line of communication with the Ironhide team, so even if you are 100% correct in your reply, answering on our behalf deprives other users from a reply from us.

Of course, you can always start a new thread with your question, but we might not see it. But if you want a direct answer from us, then this is the right place.

Cheers! :hero:

What games did you get inspiration from to make Kingdom Rush?
And what games did you used to play before starting to make the original Kingdom Rush?

Are you aware that you live in a south-american country that has better living conditions than most if not all of post-communist Europe? I actually find that pretty cool.

On a game related-question, will you ever make it possible for customers to buy heroes and/or KR games with SMSes on mobile versions?

You have created a monster, TaTs.

Anyway, about how many lines of code go into a game, say Origins on its original release.

It terms of concepts for enemies, heroes (and levels):

Do you think of a mechanic and create a level/enemy/hero to fit that mechanic, or think of the level/enemy/hero first and create mechanics to fit them?

Origins lines of code count is 158129 right now, including updates.
This doesn't include code which is shared between all three versions of KR.

When the steam version releases(unless it has haven't checked), will u add a workshop page where we make our own custom heroes to be modded into the game(as well as mini campaigns and stuff.)

Thanks, bolin.
I almost thought you were phillipriv9 because you guys have the same avatar. :)

New question:
What percent of this "new game" is completed? And is there an estimated season for the release date?

Also, will the prophecy of the great balance update ever come to fruition?

Is the general writing style like

void func()
{
//do stuff
}

or

void func(){ //do stuff
}

?
:)

The studio co-founders spend a whole year working overtime to make the first game.

They were super motivated so "giving up" was probably not in their vocabulary... although, the exhaustion of that first year probably hurt their sanity quite a bit.

A ton of tower defence games where used as an inspiration. The idea was to improve on the genre.
Castle Crashers, the Warcraft series, LOL and Dungeons and Dragons were a huge inspiration.

Each dev has his own favourite games. On a side note, the studio co-founders were also the creators of Uruguay's official LANparties, so they've been involved with video games for quite some time, even before they were developers.

Yes. Most Uruguayans are very much aware that the living conditions in our country are quite stable and satisfactory in comparison to a lot of other countries. However, Uruguay is still a third world country with tons of poverty, low income families, no heavy industry of any kind, increasing crime due to the expanding influence of Latin American drug cartels and the constant pressures of bigger countries that are constantly pushing us around. Long story short, it's not perfect by a long shot, but it's a great little country. :P

The problem with payment through sms is that each country has one, if not several, mobile services companies, each with their own commercial agenda and policies. We would be forced to negotiate terms with each and every company out there in order to be able to charge for our games. In that sense, Google Play, Amazon, Steam and Apple are much more easy to death with... they terms and conditions apply to every country.

Very, very unlikely.

The game's engine is a somewhat delicate thing as it is. When you make a game, you need to plan way ahead for each feature, so if you want the players to be able to customise Heroes and levels, that needs to be taken into account during the early stages of development.

No I'm not. :lol:

I posted separately to see if I could arrange each answer to be underneath the original question but then changed my mind and replied all of them in a single post. I'm not always a smart man... :roll:
