It seems that a lot of people aren't good at this game, so if anyone has any tips or hints, please post them here!

For beginners use Achilles with fire upgrades.

Fire is better, even if you miss it hurts the enemy and it's great for taking out loads of weak enemies.

Getting the last upgrade for the temple is a good thing to do before the tougher enemies start to arrive. If you don't have it by the time the minotaurs show up, save for it.

Minotaurs are easy, it's those damn griffins that are hard.

Here's the order of the characters in order from best to worst IMO
1. Fire Achilles
2. Poison Perseus
3. Lightning Achilles
4. Hercules with the bouncing upgrade
5. Hercules with the other one
6. Multi-shot Perseus

But, without the right upgrades it only takes them a few hits to destroy the temple. And the "griffins" are chimeras, but I agree they are annoying :x

After trying out the others in order to share my thoughts with you guys for the matter, I do agree that fire achilles indeed is pretty easy mode, he does start out stronger than perseus, however not having the slowing ability that perseus has in the long run perseus has more potential of clearing the levels with all 3 bonuses easily, also tried the others for fun to check them out.

So imo:

1. Poison Arrow Perseus - again, might be completely personal preference but huge aoe both airborn and to ground, with a mass slowing effect and nasty damage? Count me in!

2. Fire Spear Achilles - Nice starting damage, and the damage just gets better, and a close to permanent staying burn damage to ground enemies with an even better ground aoe, lack of airborn aoe though, the damage to those near the shot's range is a little bonus to make up for it I guess, all around awesome damage with no extra effects.

3/4. Lighting Spear Achilles / Bouncing Throw Hercules (in my opinion they both have the potential to beat the game with more or less the same ease, I'd say between these 2 the difference is personal preferance. However the 2 above them are way better, I'd say its normal mode gameplay.

5/6. Multishot Magic Arrows Perseus / Piercing Throw Hercules - Both have the problems of having their throws very limited, for example with Hercules you won't always be having a straight line of enemies to benefit from the piercing throw, maximum strenght can help this but its still not that good. Likewise its even harder to be able to shoot Perseus multishot/magic arrows in a way to maximize damage potential by making all of them hit foes, and you cant really make them all hit a single foe when you need it either. Definately these 2 are hardmode gameplay for those looking for a challenge.

I still like Fire Achilles better since the DoT is insanely powerful, you just have to make sure that everyone has the fire applied to them.

We did both specify that they were personal opinions/preferences after all, I guess that the slowing factor is the one that makes me go first Perseus because I'm a perfectionist and like achieving all 3 bonuses in all stages if possible, and well half speed is a huge helper so they don't pass the flag ;)

Edit: Well not sure if half speed but it sure feels like half or less speed :P

I just re-did the whole game with Perseus and I've decided that I like them both equally I got perfect on all levels except the last 2 (damn chimeras and cyclops) with both of them.

Bah you beat me to it haha, I was gonna add that I managed to get a near perfect score in the game with fire achilles after some more tries today, so I guess they could be treated as equals like you said, and LOL you saying damn chimeras reminded me of my first post here saying so as well, they ruined my almost perfect first victory with Perseus, oh well bottomline their both equally awesome.

Fire Achilles is by FAR the most powerfull breezed through the game with him , but with piercing boulder Hercules the game is close to impossible . If this games balancing was smoothed out a bit it would definetly improve my experience
