It is a very good book, which I highly recommend.
It chronicles a journey in the 24th? century to an alien world, and the lifeforms encountered on the world. Extremely interesting, and extremely well-drawn.
In addition, the Discovery Channel also made a TV adaptation, titled Alien Planet.
Both of these are available online, and it's hard to find them in physical form, considering the TV special aired in ~2005 and the book costs $60 for the paperback on Amazon.
Anyway, a good read and good watch, so you should check it out!
