KRV: Speculation and Wishlist

My fellow Defenders of Linirea, retreivers of the Hammer of Ages, slayers of gods! You have done it all, besting any foe and overcoming any challenge.

But now, it’s time for a new world order. You can accomplish playing as the good guys, but can you do the same as the villains?

Kingdom Rush: Vengeance introduces to us the return of Vez’nan, the dark wizard who originally had possession over the Tear of Elynie and nearly conquered all of Linirea with his army of demons, orcs, trolls, and more. The tear has been in many other hands, notably the lizard king, Malagar, the Twilight Elf Queen, Malicia, an unknown alien, and even Sha’tra in the late future. But none are more worthy than the one true Dark Lord! :veznan:

So, this thread is dedicated to the speculation and discussion over what we think will be present in the game and what we hope or wish is present. I’ll be more than happy to begin:

Image

Here we see the lush, green, lively Linirea from afar, with a cameo from Twin Rivers, though this could just simply be a generic river to show us how verdant Linirea is. Looking closely, one can see many round, circular little bushes that were not present in KR1, but were in KRO, where the Gnolls would hide to ambush us. Again, it could simply mean nothing, but the point of a thread like this is to find every detail and speculate on it. ;)

The main focus here is, of course, the fact that we’re seeing Linirea again at all. My speculation here is that the game will take place primarily in KR1’s map, and not use Frontier’s or Origins’ map for the main campaign. Rather, the Elite Stages will tale us there, while the base campaign focuses on Vez’nan’s journey across Linirea to seek vengeance. After all, the site of his defeat takes place here.

Image

This is the last image we see in the trailer of an environment. I‘ve chosen to post this now rather than later in the thread because of the clear contrast to the first image of Linirea. This is the same Linirea, now ravaged by Vez’nan and his armies. Due to it being shown at the end, I suspect this is the end of the game, with the Citadel as the final level. Of course, it’s very plausible to believe that this is shown at the end for the sake of contrasting Linirea before Vez’nan’s return and Linirea after his return, without any relevance to the direction of the main campaign. Linirea could very well be the first set of stages, akin to KR1. Regardless of its position in the campaign, I strongly suspect that The Citadel will be the final stage for this set of missions, as it is featured right in the center of both images.

Image

The next environment shown to us is this ice one. Unlike the Hak’raj mountains or Frozen Highlands where we see Sarelgaz, this one is much more watery, which makes me think of the Valoras terrain in the upper middle of the KR1 map. KR1 is the only game so far with any ice stages, so this supports the idea that we’re focusing on its map in this game.

The sparse ice platforms in the water lead me to believe that either the water or the ice is a hazard, with the other terrain being the ”safe” terrain. Whether it’s hazardous ice that cracks under troops’ feet or slows them down with shallow waters that can be traversed, or hazardous icy water that slows and damages units while the ice is the only solid ground available is a mystery to me. I really hope they use the environment to make a really awesome feel to the movement of units. Imagine a hero traversing the shallow, cold waters surrounded by ice platforms, with puddles and waves forming around their feet at each step. That level of detail couldn’t be expected from most other game studios, but with Ironhide, it’s something that might actually be there and that really means a lot.

So, what is Vez’nan doing here? Could he be seeking vengeance not only on the humans who foiled his plans but also the troll and spider minions that failed him? I personally doubt it, as it seems much more likely that he instead is traveling to the icy lands to find new evil beings to gain their allegiance, even if he has to fight his way there. The same pacts he made with Sarelgaz or Moloch could be made again with new creatures.

Though, considering the orc and demon towers shown to us by Ironhide already, I actually anticipate us seeing old faces when we journey to the frost lands, such as the trolls and spiders, and unlocking them as towers.

Image

Here we see a much darker and warmer location. It feels very reminiscent of the Dwarves for the gold chests, bearded statues and even the door in the center of the picture with a prominent bearded face for a design. The cavernous nature of this environment also reminds me of the 2 environment types we already know are connected to the Dwarves: The Saurian stages and the Forgotten Treasures stages, both of which are cavernous. I don’t suspect this environment to be the same as either of them, though. It will likely be a new environment, perhaps the main home of the Dwarves, where Vez’nan will wipe them out to extinction.

If we are following the images in chronological order for the campaign, then it could be that Vez’nan is seeking aid from new (but also old) evil creatures in order to help him bring down the Dwarves.

Image

Here, we see a Blackburn/Shadowmoon campaign’s signature zombie hand, cawing crow, and graves. All of which surround the ominous glowing tower in the center of the image. Could this be the Dark Tower, rebuilt to be bigger, badder, and have a lower tax rate? Or is it the towering fortress of some other entity, which we must assault as part of Vez’nan’s wave of destruction? Repeating my speculation for the ice levels, I could see Vez’nan seeking the help of the undead, even if he must fight his way through them.

However, of the environments shown, the grasslands, ice terrain, and now the dark terrain above all connect to the original 3 environments in KR1: The grasslands of Linirea from Southport to The Citadel, the snowy mountains from The Coldstep Mines up to the Stormcloud Temple, and the dark, rotten terrain from The Wastes up until the Dark Tower itself.

The Dwarven lands do not fit into this but they are certainly a welcome addition should the theory hold true that we are journeying back through all of KR1’s map. Maybe they’re even part of a mini campaign available upon release?

Image

The demonic terrain here deceived me at first. I thought we were being teased with returning to the underworld in a really cool depiction of a hellish environment that had multiple layers of depth, with really low cavernous terrain accompanied by much higher terrain almost reminiscent of the city in the sky we saw at the end of Origins. However, I since realized this is much more similar to the previous picture of the Dwarven environment ee were shown earlier, with the statues desecrated and door busted open.

As with Linirea, we are shown the destruction of the Dwarves and their lands after Vez’nan achieves his vengeance there.

Image

We see the same fate befall the ice environment. Why is it destroyed? Did Vez’nan seek vengance on those who failed him after all? Did he need to decimate this environment to show his power and force the creatures there to obey him?

We see a burning capital city in the middle there; the only time the center of the image wasn’t touched upon by me was for the ice environment.

Image

This is it. Very beautiful and shiny, it seems unlike anything we’ve ever seen before in the series. Perhaps all of my previous speculation is far off from the truth, and we’re being introduced to some new ally of Linirea to defeat. Since Linirea houses the humans and the caverns house the Dwarves, could it be that this snowy environment is home to the Elves?

Not much is certain at this point other than we will be playing as Vez’nan’s forces, we will have Orc and Demon towers available to us, and we will be seeing Linirea again, before and after it is ravaged and burned like the other environments.

I have very high hopes for this game and confidence in Ironhide to deliver. :hero:

So every new KR game made some changes to the hero system. Frontiers made hero levels permanent and added three more skills to the kit of a hero, while Origins gave every hero a hero spell.

My wish for a possible new hero mechanic is that there are more skill points needed to upgrade all skills than there are skill points available. This way, you have to choose which skills you want to fully upgrade, and which skills you want to leave unupgraded. This allows each player to create their own playstyle.

To make this more interesting, the final upgrade of each skill could have an 'overdrive' that upgrades the skill significantly more than the first upgrade. This would make your choices more impactful.

Alright, we need to get this straight now. Heroes will obviously no longer be good, and as such will most likely be named villains. Just saying ... :veznan:

Demons, bandits, man-eating spiders, Necromancers and their dark hordes, zombies; I don’t think that stopping tyranny (also Denas seems pretty benevolent) is what they’re up too ... ;)

Yeah, "villains" feels like a more fitting name for them, though it gets confusing when talking about multiple games or the series overall. :P

In other news, I've updated the OP with new images revealed from Ironhide's showcase in China. :hero:

Is that the Tear of Elynie in that laser tower looking thing? That would be an odd turn. Then again, it could just be another red magic diamond, but the Tear would be really easy to confuse with it, so I don’t see why another color wouldn’t be chosen. :? Also, I’m calling this as Tiers 1-3 for Mages, adding one more acolyte for each Tier, much akin to the Sunray Tower from Flash Stormcloud Temple or the Tiers 1-3 for Archers in KRO. Alternatively, it could be a Tier 4 Mage with an upgrade increasing its strength by adding acolytes. It could also have super powerful player-controlled attacks, again mimicking the Sunray Tower. :ugeek:

I’m assuming the boomerang tower will have a return mechanic for its basic attacks, dealing damage both times and possibly hitting with abilities twice as well. Also, I’m guessing this is a Tier 4 Archer and the Shadow Archers will occupy Tiers 1-3.

There’s a Twilight Elf in the top right, so I’m predicting the return of Aredhelian elves who have come to help Denas in Linirea’s time of need just as he did for them. I really hope this is a Tier 4 Archer (Twilight Harasser) that can Shadow Jump onto the path to stall and deal damage for a moment before teleporting back to their tower. That would be awesome.

The bottom right tower is looking like a tower that uses missiles as its base attack (like the ones from Dragonbreath Launcher or Wasp Missiles); it’s probably an artillery tower. It would be very interesting if that’s a non-maxed artillery (albeit unlikely). Perhaps artillery can target fliers now?

I’m thinking that the Tainted Treants will be a Tier 4 Barracks as you can see three of them in their picture. I think that Tiers 1-3 for Barracks will go Goblins  Orcs  Orc Champions. I think the other Tier 4 Barracks will be the Dark Knights on the top right.

The Witches’ Cauldron is going to be a Tier 4 Mage Tower. I see some juicy transmogrification instakills incoming! :veznan:

The Demon is probably a Mage Tower. If they deal fire damage, then I’m calling them being the most OP tower right now (unless the specialize in DoT rather than burst or high DPS, which would admittedly be very cool). ;) I could potentially see this as Tiers 1-3 for Mages, but as aforementioned, I’m predicting the Laser Tower as slightly more likely for that role (IMO).

The steam powered (foreshadowing for KRV on Steam :P ) contraption on the far right is probably an Artillery, but I have no idea what it will do.

I suppose the dwarfs' land is the lost kingdom of Loria that was previously mentioned in the Darklight Dephts elite stage in KRF. Maybe it's not but it'd be accurate.
Also, I think were going to start campaigning on some of the grass lands to spread fear and get some strategic stations, then we'd start heading towards the dwarfs to conquer their armies and loot their legendary treasures, after that we'll invade the frozen sea of the Valoras and obtain some sort of ancient relic that is hidden underneath that village. After all this we'll get to march towards the royal palace of Linirea
Simple curious little Elvish youngling who willingly got lost in the vast universe of Edih'Nori
Ask me about anything related to Kingdom Rush. I've beaten it on normal when I was 9 (2k11)
I have KR and KRF on Android and Steam and KRO on Iphone

This leak looks very interesting. Im gonna start with the Towers before i can get to heroes.

The Tear of Elynie looking crystal tower looks very interesting. It has four people and the tower itself similair to the sorcerers in the Original since it casts probably a lazer beam. It might be a mage tower or exlusive tower. The tower might be called Cultist tower since it has these summoners that look kinda like a stereotypical Cultists with their hoods and such or the tower might also be called Dark Tower since it looks similair to Veznans tower which is also called Dark Tower.

Then we got Dark Knights or Dark Slayers, they look very interesting since they look very similair to Fallen Knights with their Helmets and also is their swords which kinda looks like Chainsaws. The Tower itself is kinda goofy evil looking since it has teeth that look something like Garbodors from Pokemon but very intimidating. I hope its obviously gonna be a Barrack tower. They might be similair to the Paladins with their armor but with damage than healing

The Third tower is a Twilight Elf ones and i assume there gonna be archer tower. Its even more interesting why they joined forces with Veznan since in Origin Veznan was pretty much with Heroes like King Denas and they would probably hate him although they joined Veznan for some reason. Its probably against the Elves that attacked their homeworld and which they allied to get their vengeance. I hope arrow volley get a return as one of the archer ability.

The fourth is a tower with a goblin that throws a boomerang. Its pretty much an archer tower since boomerangs obviously are not artillery or mages. I think this tower takes a supportive roll since Boomerangs themselves stun opponents which the aboriginals used to take out their prey with their boomerangs and slay it once its stunned.

The fifth is a demon mage tower or should i call it Pyromancers since they are fire mages. This one has lava so i assume its a dps mage tower. Im also interested if it can use lava to deal AOE

The Sixth is a Steam type of tower with Human co-workers that work for Veznan. I could tell that they work for Veznan since one of the worker that smokeslooks like he is enjoying it rather than being a some sort of a slave. I guess Polution is Evil somehow :? . It could be an Artillery tower that might function as a tower that gives money or something since it doesnt have any weaponry. It would be interesting to see if it gives money that is probably used to get money faster since it might have a roll as the Necromancer tower but mining for money rather than summon skeletons early on.

The Seventh is a goblin with rockets. Its probably gonna be an artillery tower since rockets do splash damage. Nothing else to say

The eight one are 3 Tainted Treants. Hard to say what role they take since there doesnt seem to be a tower unless its in the background

The ninth and final is the Witch tower and there mages, There probably gonna have one ability which instakills enemies.

The Heroes are next or should i call them villains?

The first Villain is a Demon which is hard to say if its a brawler or a mage

The second villain is a dragon which takes the flying role again. I possibly think that the fourth in the picture is the same

The Third Villain is a Shadow Archer but with a crossbow and a melee weapon. At first i thought it was a pickaxe but in a closer look its actually a Crossbow which was very confusing for me to think a shadow archer uses a pickaxe in a battle

The Fourth Villain (Aside the Dragon) is a goblin with a rocket. Its very interesting to say the least. It also has drones with that look similair to Wilburs Spell Ability

The Fifth Villain is a Yeti that has flags on him. The Yeti might possibly go on a revenge spree for probably the acts in the snowy village for possibly hunting its species down near extinction or something like that.

The Sixth Villain is a Dark Knight type of thing that looks kinda like a train. The Train is controlled by humans on top that shoot rockets from it

The Seventh and Final Villain is an Orc that looks like one of the Orcs from World Of Warcraft. I assume he is gonna be the first hero like Alric or Gerald.

Thats all i got to say about but i was quite disappointing that Veznan wasnt in the Villain room since it would be awesome to see him. I hope he is getting released as a hero with new abilities that will make him stand out from the origins Veznan. The enemies and the spells are pretty much missing so i hope ironhide would release a trailer with the gameplay.

All things i got to say about is that i speculate what tower and heroes might have rolls with in terms of this image.

If the black dragon breathing green fire isn’t Beresad I want my money back

With further thought, we're overlooking the possibility that all nine of those images are level 4 towers. What's to say KR.v doesn’t introduce a fifth tower type?

I considered this as well. However, my guess is instead that not all of these are the lvl 4 towers. Rather, they depict some of the lower-tier stages of towers.

Then again, it isn't yet confirmed what the mechanics are for the towers in this game. For all we know, there could be more than 2 branches for level 3 towers to sproud from, or branches at different points in an upgrade tier.

I would love it if the goblin hero (the one strapped to the rocket) was super OP and had lots of area damage abilities but one of its non-activated/passive abilities was that it would randomly fire itself into enemies killing the character and then respawning after the 25 seconds respawn time or so. Would make for some really interesting play and players would have to decide between having a super OP hero but for only half of the game- not so much a glass cannon as a spontaneously combusting one. I think itd make for a really interesting hero.

Yeah , but the phoenix only stays dead for 5 seconds so has little effect on gameplay and so its not something you consider when deciding to take the phoenix into the game. But if you had to make the choice to take in a really powerful hero which kills itself for 25/30 seconds at a time, it'd make the decision and subsequent gameplay much more interesting.

As for the towwrs, here are some of the thoughts of JB and I on what towers are.
Based on the initial screenshot with the soldier enemies, we believe the shadow archer orc and demon are the basic archer, barracks, and mage.
As for the advanced towers:
Archer
-Boomerang is obvious, though JB finds them boring
-We had originally thought the steam juggernaut thing to be an archer, but some of the ideas for it being artillery are valid.
Barracks
-Dark Knights are also obvious
-We believe the Elves are the secon barracks, but contrary to popular opinion, based on the skin of the elves, I believe they could be undead Sylvan Elves
Mages
-The Acolyte tower seems like a t4 mage
-Witches are also obvious
Artillery
-Firework goblins
-We had thought treants, but they could be swapped
KRA is now complete.

Are we talking about Twilight Elves when you say that or just straight up zombies? If zombies, it seems unlikely to me, since they have the telltale purple theme of the Twilight. Also, they really look like Harassers with those glaive weapons and the bow in the background.

Elf zombies, based on their green scaly skin. Zoom on their hands and you can see it better.
Now I know that Harasser is a safer bet, but the green skin does throw me off.
