Spam bots are getting out of control.

This is the second time I post about this, and come here and find the first 5 threads made by spammers is very, very sad IMO.

I already sent pms to Delebru to run automatic filters to prevent new users from publishing links on their first posts but he didn't want to restrict users freedom, honestly why in the hell the first posts should be contain links if they are not marketing spam ?

They are running way more rampant than they were before. Now its seriously annoying.

I was out four a couple of days so I couldn't clean the forums but I'm back now and I just made some modifications with the registration process.

If human bots still come to interrupt our peace, we will restrict new users from posting links...

Sounds good but what will determine if you are a new user.Maybe have ranks of time on the site.So that way only true fans can post the best stuff.

What if their first post is helpful? Then, they try to post a link, say, to their completion of a challenge they made up, and it won't let them.

well they could post on the 4th post with 4 hours between each post, that's the idea.
there are also users with spam links on their signatures..
anyway the devs keep the forum pretty clean ^^

We will do something this week to prevent so much spam...

Edit: I also deactivated all users with 0 post to prevent old registered bots to spam.
The forums should stay calm for a while

This seems kinda mean, but I agree as there's no other way.

It seems the spambots have finally got ahold of the Defender's Quest forums. Might I suggest adding a new field on registration that asks something along the lines of, "Fill in the Blank: Defender's _____?" to prevent automated spammers?

From another of the forums I'm on. Replace "Defender's Quest" with "whatever you what to put" lol.

There are many ways prevent spam bots to register, I will check out as many possibilities this week and we will add what we consider the best option
