I'm not sold on having a poison type that can deal double damage to steel types, nor if said ability were only aimed at one other Pokemon. Not every Pokemon has to have a brilliant new and original ability, it can just be a plain old boring Keen Eye bird.

I wasn't aware we'd decided on steel and poison for the birds.

-Added Bird Poll
-Added a middle stage for Dragonfly (It wouldn't be much better than the first stage, but it would have the Bug/Dragon typing to tempt people into trying to evolve further)

Also, any thoughts on the map I made?

I thought that dragonflies lie their eggs in the water, or something. I'm honestly not really sure how it works. But anyways, shouldn't the larva be bug/water then?

So uhm, the split evo bird has the most votes now, but I'm pretty sure that its not even established what bird it's going to be based on. So what type of bird, specifically, would they be based on?

Aeris, the map is kind of hard to understand.

Mmm. That's true. I guess it's more stuff to figure out...

So, the key:
Yellow - Starting Town
Blue - Town
Red - City
Green - Route
Light Green - Sea Route (Can be used as quick travel to/fro coastal locations)
Dark Green - Locked Routes

So, my idea was to have each version (which I believed we agreed on Kingdom/Frontiers) start in a different town, Southport and Lopah respectively.
But, what's interesting, is that the gyms are "paired". There are four in each region, but you'll need to complete all the gyms to access the E4 (Emberspike).
Each gym "pair" has similar levels, and each pair must be beaten before the next can be accessed. The pairs are:
Normal-Ground (Lozagon and Hammerhold)
Fairy-Dragon (Silveroak and a random location near the Gates of Nazeru)
Steel-Poison (The Capitol and Ma'qwa Urqu)
Flying-Ghost (Stormcloud and Bonesburg)
{Fly, or something similar, would be accessible fairly early on}

Ok, I had a look first for venomous birds, but according to Wikipedia there are only birds that are poisonous if eaten. That's still ok to work off, Pokemon tends not to fuss around the differences of venomous/poisonous.

I quote "The pitohui, the ifrita, and the rufous or little shrikethrush sequester batrachotoxin in their skin and feathers."

The Strikethrush is a cool sounding name, but all three are nothing special to look at. Alternatively there's the Zhenniao, "poisonous birds that is said to have existed in what is now present-day Southern China during ancient times and is referenced in many Chinese myths, annals and poetry." It has a much more colourful description.

On the other side of the coin, "the secretarybird (Sagittarius serpentarius), and a few other birds that feed on snakes are known to be immune to a dose of snake venom.". It has an interesting and fairly colourful appearance that could favour it towards being a steel type. A sort of Skamory/Blaziken cross.

Map

I understand the map, I will try and make a pokemonish version of it. I like it. I think rather than having Fly (or Ride Pager) available early, you have to finish the first four gyms of your region, and pass a mid way battle with someone before you are allowed to take a long trainer filled path (like a halfway Victory Road) to reach the other side.

The only issue with starting on different sides is having similar Pokemon on both sides. So aside from the starters, what we've done so far (bugs and birds) are more suited to grassy plains we'll need to have desert styled bugs and birds etc. So that both games have a balance. Then have that midway battle unlock the pokedex for the other side.

I feel I'm understanding the split Evo bird correctly we also need another we do for the steel/flying bird. As far as the poison bird the secretary bird seems the shrikethrush seems like the most unique of the three birds. Most of the poison types often deal with animals that inject "venom" not poison, and don't often deal with coming into contact equals your poisoned.(Apologies for terrible sentence structure, and grammar)

I meant for the secretary bird to be the steel type as it resists poison, the first three then are poisonous.

I've heard about the secretary bird before. I think it would work well enough.

Added a few updates to this thread and the other.
Also, in a duh moment, perhaps the birds should be region-exclusive.

Oh also, another idea, more specifically for the main Linirea region: what if instead of the pass-through buildings we had bridges as connections between different zones?

...I'd also like to try a map if Razor doesn't mind. ^^
