Half-Life: Source (shortened to HL:S or HL: Source) is a remake of the original Half-Life using the Source engine. Developed by the Valve Corporation, it was released for Microsoft Windows on June 1, 2004. Ports of Half-Life: Source for OS X and Linux were released in Beta on September 13, 2013 with full releases coming less than two weeks later on September 25, 2013.[1][2] Much like Half-Life, Half-Life: Source allows the player to assume the role of Dr. Gordon Freeman, a theoretical physicist who must fight his way out of a secret underground research facility whose research and experiments into teleportation technology have gone disastrously wrong.

While the game was a remake of Half-Life, its first release included only minimal changes to the physics engine and updates that took advantage of the Source engine's vertex and pixel shaders for more realistic water effects. Later updates attempted to rectify some of these issues by adding field of view options, support for the Oculus Rift virtual reality device, and a high-definition texture pack, among other improvements.
