My apologies, this little detail called "school" gets in the way of working on the game.
However, I haven't yet been able to duplicate the issue, so I can't exactly fix it...

Shields get weaker over time; they have an initial defense which quickly fades from the hero. Also, they don't defend against all damage, just a small portion, ergo there is balance.

Teleports are primarily for escapes. Say, you're about to die, and you need to get away fast to regenerate your health; you can use the teleport to do just that.

I haven't yet gone through the entire game to balance hero abilities; that will be part of today's work.
Jack's picture (and most of the UI) is entirely the work of ShadowNight, a friend who, to my knowledge, has since left the forums.
