A few Suggestions

1- We have Armor for melee and Magic Resist for magic. What about something an enemy can use to negate explosive damage?

2- Also I have a suggestion about having an enemy that can use explosions agains our unit.

3- How about a barrack unit that can lay traps.

4- Enemies that use flares to divert missiles.

.. Awesome idea Kilele :P

5-

If you have a small idea like this post and I might add here :D

How about (flying) enemies releasing flares to confuse your heat-seeking rockets? like the C-130 Hercules anti missile system in this video

That looks impressive, but impractical: think of how random the screen would look after that...

not so random, have you noticed the angel of death pattern? :o

edit : you can see more pics here and another video here

Also you have to remember that so many sprites could make the game lag...and not everyone uses big berthas for every mission...

Keep in mind that these flares might be not only a source of heat but real fire. As for the laggy performance, maybe something like the second video would require less memory usage.
Another kind of defense against artillery: tunnel diggers, 'mouth on fire' drunkards, you name it...

The missiles from the big bertha aren't head guided...but that's taking it a bit far lol :P
I'm thinking more of the Immortals from Starcraft II: static shields that activate only when attacked by large explosions.

Have the enemy throw hand grenades onto the canyon openings to damage the tower mechanism for some time, it'd be funny to see a dwarf going into the tower to fix it! I give up :x

Actually a Demon Lord casts shield magic on Demon Hounds and Demon Spawns to negate dmg several times, of course including the explosive one

I already suggested this on another post, but honestly don't like the idea now.
Wouldn't it suck to lay pre-made traps in contrast to vivid animation details like soldiers falling on real time ?
I mean we accept towers coming out of nowhere but i think that might not be the case in the battlefield

Yea but I am talking about exclusive to artillery reduction.. Making it harder to just only build artillery to win a match.

Nope.. I still like the idea.. Being able to set up a tree trap to stop the flight of flying units temporarily or bear traps on the ground to stund some wolfs temporarily.. it would be pretty awesome.

Yeah, its weird that towers come out of nowhere instantly, or at least it should take more time to build or upgrade. Better to add some vivid animation during building or upgrading

Ah, I got it. Then why not just weaken the power of artillery (or Big Bertha only)? It might be much easier in my opinion

Nope, I meant that the towers materialization is fine; on second thoughts they have a building animation and the time to load them is fine because this way they are more real. Sorry for the confusion.

Yes, I like very much this kind of traps like barbarians throwing nets to slow gargoyles down.
Tree traps or cowboy lassos ^^

Yeah, I know. But it could be better or more animated, and I think more building and upgrading time would make the game more strategic IMO

A barracks is about melee attacks, a trap is a ranged attack
because the victim is harmed from range, not melee.

K .on some occasions they are called flares but, typically they are called chaff and they are not always used on c-130's or ac-130's not the Sr 71 black bird of course but on quite a lot of planes .

so what ^^ I didn't say that chaff aka flares are restricted to the c-130 Hercules, it's just that's a huge and spectacular aircraft with a nice flare pattern that looks like an angel of death
