Forum Rules - UPDATED

Hello there fellow Rusher!

Here is where you learn how NOT to screw up things in this Forum.
We have a number of rules made in order to keep the Forum civilized and non-toxic. We are not big fans on imposing authority, but a few guidelines will certainly help to improve the way we treat each other.

Basically, let's all contribute toward making this Forum a nice place to hang around.

The Capital Offences (Things that will get you banned)

- Posting other people's phone numbers, addresses, pictures, etc., without their permission. (Respect the privacy of others)
- Posting links or requests for wares (No piracy allowed).
- Posting pornographic, sexually offensive, sexually explicit, or objectifying material.
- Posting hate oriented remarks towards a certain gender, religion, nationality, ethnicity, etc.
- Posting links that directs to illegal activities (drug selling, weapons smuggling, etc).
- Update: Making a fake account for the sake of trolling or disrupting the Forums.

The Cardinal Rules (Failing to observe these will get you into trouble)

- Do not post something off-topic because you think you'll get "better responses" in a particular forum.
- Update: Name your thread with an appropriate subject, related to the conversation. Also... do not place foul language in thread subjects.
- Blatant advertising of products is not tolerated (you can suggest a product if it makes sense, but promoting it constantly is not ok).
- No trolling. Don't make posts that are inflammatory just to get people riled up. Substance is the key to not being labeled a troll.
- Attack the message, not the messenger. Criticize ideas, not people. Flaming will not be tolerated.
- Personal attacks are defined as Personal, Racial, Ethnic, and/or Gender based insults, slurs, or derisive comments.
- All complaints need to be communicated privately using either PM, and/or EMail.
In the event of this, the offending post will be edited or removed, and the offending party shall receive no more than two (2) private warnings via PM and/or EMail, and one final Administration warning.
- If the behavior continues, the member will be banned for a week, and upon a repeat incident, banned permanently.
- Update: Do not bump old threads just for the sake of it. If a conversation died out, it's probably for a good reason.
- Update: Not knowing these rules is not an excuse.

The Guidelines (Observing this will contribute to make this Forum better for everyone)

- Post intelligently (Don’t clutter conversations with monosyllabic responses and try to avoid off-topic comments as much as humanly possible).
- Before opening a new Thread, look around to make sure there isn’t another thread that’s similar.
- If there’s something you think the Admins, Mods, or the Devs really need to know, send a PM.
- If someone made you mad, don’t reply right away… take a walk, cool down, and then come back and reply.
- Do not tell Mods, Admins or the Devs who to ban (“armchair” moderators are not cool).
- Do not ask to be a Moderator (We will pick the people we need, thanks).
- Update: Do not start debating over the Forum rules outside this thread.
- Update: Try to solve personal discrepancies through PM... leave the aggro out of the Threads.
- Update: Do not act as a Moderator. If something annoys you and it's harmless, ignore it. If something it's offensive, report it to the Admins or Moderators... easy peasy.
- Be sarcastic at your own risk. Do not expect people to understand it when they cannot hear your voice or see your body language.

Basically, don't be a jerk and be nice to others.

Cheers!

This is overdue, but nice nonetheless. I don't necessarily feel "safer" with this posted, as this is all common sense and people who wouldn't consider this logic still won't do so just because it's in written form. I do not, however, see this as a problem since 1) It's mostly good here anyways 2) Tats is a lot more active and 3) Moderators will be appointed (soon?) to the forums. :D

What's the policy with "joking," though? Is a temporarily funny remark alright as long as it doesn't go really far? :)

Sadly... rules won't make anyone safer. It's enforcing the rules what brings safety to any environment. That's why I'm trying to be more active until Moderators are picked.
Joking and some friendly banter is super fine. It's part of what this Forum is all about. But when someone gets inevitably offended, we can go back to the rules and see what to do next.

I thank you for establishing guidelines. While, yes, these are common sense, it serves a good purpose to make them apparent. :D

Also, I'm quite interested to see who the Moderators shall become! I miss Cheesecake (and I never met TheHallMonitor).

Pretty good rules, and it's nice that they address a few loopholes some forum members have been using. Would be nice to be able to look back at this thread whenever someone does something that isn't benefitial to the forums.

you're essentially voting for someone who isn't officially entered in a non existant poll.

I have a few threads that I update with new conceptual art from time to time. I have other things going on so I'm not able to post as often which makes those threads sink below others, but I still have concepts I want to add to those threads. To me it's cleaner and more uniform to update one thread than creating separate threads for each concept with the same theme.

Is it okay to continue updating these threads?

I think that it's about applying common sense.
Once we've selected Moderators, you can give them a heads up before bumping a thread. Or you can bump the thread and explaining why.

The idea is to make things a bit more tidy around here, but not to make it an oppressive environment.
