For those unfamiliar with the contests we run on the forums, here's a brief run-down. Each contest is a test of your creating ability and originality. You are set a series of requirements to create a certain aspect of the Iron Marines game. That is submitted privately, and when all submissions are accepted, you and your fellow forum members get to vote on which is the best.

There is no prize other than self-gratification and a little bit of boasting. The contests are in no way affiliated with Ironhide Games Studios, and they have no influence on the design or creation of any of their games. It's just a bit of fun. You can see our previous Kingdom Rush contests here. We've done many over the past few years, and hopefully, we'll do many more. But for now, let's get some Iron Marines contests on the go!

Instead of simply ranking first, second or third as is done with Kingdom Rush contests, for the Iron Marines contests things are going to take a more military theme in line with the game itself. For each successful mission (contest) you as a member will receive Tech Points. The better you place in a contest, the more points you earn. The more points you earn, the more your rank increases. the more your rank increases, the more you get to brag about how great you are to other members. OK, there's no incentive because there's no ultimate prize but much like the contests, it's a bit of fun to be had.

Current Recruitment Requirement

  • Take part in a forum contest
  • More coming soon...

Earning Image

  • Take part in a forum contest - 100 points
  • Receive a vote - 5 points (per vote)
  • Place 3rd - 10 points
  • Place 2nd - 20 points
  • Place 1st - 30 points
  • Donate points - up to 100 (per week)

You can donate your hard earned Tech Points to any other person should you wish. You can donate up to 100 points (split into however many denominations you wish) every seven days. If you donate all 100 before your week is up, then you must wait for the cycle to restart before giving again. Donations that drop you below the requirements for a rank will result in a demotion.

I feel as if you might want to tone down the number of points for the higher levels, especially Field Marshal, as that would require someone to win ~67 contests or so.

This IM contest point system that you have here has spawned an idea in my head of a potential point system for the KR contests.

This theoretical system would rely on gaining stars rather than gears and ranks. Each contest would have different subcategories to vote for for each entry (lore, balancing, creativity, etc.), and then there would also be an overall poll to determine the winner of the contest after the all of the subcategories have been voted upon. Each subcategory would give the winner of it a piece of a star (say, perhaps, 1/5 of a star). If you win enough subcategories, then they will add up to create a full star. Winning the overall vote would give substantially more, perhaps an automatic two stars while the subcategories account for the potential third star. If one gains anywhere between 1 and 3 stars, then he has "completed a level." How many "levels" a member has "completed" would be listed under his name in the KR contest discussion thread. Each "level completed" would be accompanied by how many stars he completed it with. Perhaps there could even be some use for the stars or you could gain achievements if you fulfilled certain requirements, but I'll leave that up to you if you think this suggestion is good.

The only problems I can immediately point out is the length of time a voting period would take to be completed (each subcategory having its own poll and then the overall vote) and the logistics of figuring out the subcategories to include and such.

Well, it says that there more ways to gain points coming soon. Whatever those methods may be may yield sufficient points to gain the FM rank without the need of such seemingly insane requirements.

Working with your idea, doing an outside poll, say through Google Forms, would fix the time issue.

Ninja - It's a good idea, but it's something that we'd have to iron out the details of as it's a little complicated. We'll see how this set up goes for Marines for a bit and then work on implementing it if it's a success.

Aeris - I've taken your advice and lowered the requirements for the ranks significantly. I've also added 10 points to each of the contest winning rewards.

I've added icons for the current rank. No spoilers, you have to earn a rank to see the next symbol. I've also added a means to give your points away.

I have an IM contest written up to go live about two weeks after Borealis is released.

I finally submitted my entry. I can’t wait to see all the other planets and their inhabitants. Razor might need more than one post to fit every entry inside! :D
