Ded game thread

Talk about anything game related!

Ded game thread

by Kowaghuz » Sat Oct 03, 2015 6:43 am

I'm pretty sure we've all been on the web long enough to see a multiplayer game we love die.

So, if you want to talk about it, feel free to do so in this thread; Meanwhile I'm going to list all the ded games I know here and will edit when someone mentions a game I've not listed.

THE DEDONOMICON

Runescape-Life Support

It's been discovered long ago that the Jagex HQ was located in a time-space anomaly which made one end of the building situated in England and the other in Israel - and people pretty much lived with the fact that they were going to have their shekels milked out if they wanted to enjoy the game to the fullest.

But Jagex decided to remake some combat features which apparently pissed a lot of people off and most of the old playerbase left. The community as of now is very alive, however.

Realm of The Mad God-Life Support

Used to play this. Quit more due the fear of dying than the fact that I've lost a good character.

It's not yet dead compared to what it was during its peak, but it's not doing well either.

Club Penguin-Slowly Dying

While not dead, Google Trends will tell you it gets the amount of players it got back in 2006. A new low in 9 years, and it's only going to get worse.

It's still huge, but I don't see CP going past 2017.

Webosaurs-Ded

Online game for kids where you played a dinosaur. It was pretty much like CP but edgier and with more free content.

Died ~2013.

Dragonadopters-Ded

A game where you adopted dragons and took care of them. Neat animated pixel graphics.

Died in September 2013, due to lack of time from the host rather than financial reasons.

Pandada-Ressurecded

Just like CP but with red pandas. The visuals were more "real", the world felt more alive and there was much more to do compared with CP. It even got a questing and leveling system at a point.

Closed down due to financiary reasons, but someone started up a private server which closed down in summer 2015 and it's unknown whether the host will resurrect the game - altough there are still slivers of hope in this case.

Club Penguin was and is the worst thing. Always.

I'll add RotMG to the list, it's been dying for years. I stopped playing months ago. Everyone I know who played it did too.
In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Added to "Life Support" because it's not doing half as bad compared to the state CP is in.

You misspelled resurrected.
Sorry for correcting you,but it really doesn't make me
want to read something when it has terrible grammar
and/or bad spelling.

It was deliberately misspelt ;obnoxiousunderminingwinkyface:

It's a play on words, by merging resurrected and dead (ded as he is spelling it in this thread) to indicate a game that was dead and has been resurrected (with the possible addition step of it being dead now again)

Back on topic, any more dead games? Come on, the accesible internet has been going for ~30 years at this point. It still breathes new games, but there is plenty of dead content.

Don't let this thread die, I want to know I'm not just an unlucky loser who happens to find anything fun closed or past its peak.

It died in 2013. I used to play it and only found out about the shutdown notice this year.

I felt pretty bad after that realization.

I'm not just a grammar Nazi.
I don't like reading things with a lot
of misspellings(on purpose or not),
because it shows that the writer
obviously didn't think his work was
important enough for readers to read it
and understand it while doing so.And
if he doesn't care about his own writings,
then why should I be motivated to read it? ;)

Then, being the son of an editor personally, why the weird line structure in your response? :P
