So, taking information from Magnus' thread, I've (with approval of others) decided to create a thread for us to make a Pokedex/associated game.

I suppose the first things we should do is decide on what animals/objects/themes we want Pokemon to be. So in the case of the water starter we'd have said "Husky/Polar Otter, Water or Ice". I think we build up a list first of ideas and potential types, then move on to naming them, then abilities, moves (and stats) later.

1or2 basic bugs

Common rodent

I do have one thing to add to that list, namely a pseudo-legend. Fairly important.

The remaining animals in the Chinese Zodiac have already been Pokemon several times over, so unless we want to repeat some past animals, we may need to think of others. The only two from it that spring to mind are a Fire/Flying Pegasus/winged horse, but I think ithis needs to be an evo or mega for Rapidash, or a Fire type snake, possibly with a group of poison secondary typing. Neither are wholly gripping though.

Another water starter I had an idea for was an Eastern Dragon, an aquatic, floating serpent that becomes Water/Dragon eventually. Could be a pseudo, although I think a fairy type Pseudo would do wonders.

For a grass type starter we could really do anything at all. All of the grass starters barring Sceptile and Seperior have been slow and a bulky, and while this doesn't mean they can't be powerhouses (Decidueye is really strong and Venusaur was the queen of Sun teams) another fast and frail Grass starter wouldn't go amiss.

The Chinese zodiac is a bit boring to be honest, just 12 normal animals. Making things from the Greek zodiac would be much more challenging. Lets not focus on mega forms for old pokemon yet, it's the original ideas we want to start with.

I don't think it's fair to have a Dragon type starter final. Dragons have always been powerful, tagging it on to a starter is too much.

Aeris - I'm an ideas and developing the ideas type of person. I'm interested in the pokemon, not the mechanics.

The only unused grass dual-typing is Grass/Fire, though that would be best as another pokemon, rather than a starter. (Of course, Grass/Electric only exists because of a Rotom form)
As for Fire, there is no Fire/Fairy or Fire/Ice.
Since Ice is taken, something with a Fire/Fairy final typing could be interesting. I do want a 4-legged Fire starter in any case.

Ironically, back in 7th (I think) grade, my friends and I made a pokedex, along with a name and map, called Pokemon Sol and Luna. I AM AN ORACLE I SWEAR

I can try to draw and sprite things, and also anything else if needed. I'm not too good with balance/competitive use though so I'll leave that to others.

Perhaps we should do a poll system.
We suggest things in comments, then vote on what concept seems to best.
Hence, I'll change the "Current Topic" to Grass Starter.

As for my possible ideas:
-Grass/Electric cat (From that old idea)
-Grass antelope, perhaps part Normal or Psychic if we want to be interesting

The type I made up was called 'Mystic' and constituted anything that was mythological, mysterious or fairy like.


Ok, ideas for a grass type:
Stick insect ninja, final form grass/fighting. Thin, fast, lots of evasion and defence moves.
Something based on Dittany, grass/fire. Produces flammable oils and scents
Explosive mushroom, also grass/fire. Explodes to scatter its spores (Boomshroom lol)
Dandelion, grass/ghost. Part flower, part lion, goes from bud to flower to the wispy white seeds as it dies.
Wood nymph or dryad, grass/fairy. Impish, lots of trickery, bit magical.
Something to do with grass and soil, grass/ground
Algae or seaweed, grass/water
Deadly nightshade grass/poison or grass/dark

I'll brain storm some fire types next.

I think the Dittany or mushroom concept could be good for another pokemon, but not as much for a starter, since they're always animals.
I also don't really want the Dandelion (though it does sound cool) because Decidueye is another Grass/Ghost starter.
I'll add the stick insect, nymph, algae, and nightshade concepts to a poll.

I think we should have a grass/rock option. Cradily is the only grass/rock pokemon, and it's not particularly remarkable.

It could be based on an ancient deity/gaurdian or something. Like a mobile statue.

Honestly, it seems like a better concept for a later Pokemon.
But yeah, another Grass/Rock, perhaps as another Fossil, would be cool.

Ideas for fire starters:

Fire/Ice - Large crystals of rock salt/frozen ice water that act as lamps. Maybe something that lives in volcanic caverns near or under the sea?

Fire/Fairy - A genie

Fire/Electric - Snake. Semi-transparent body with bursts of plasma going up and down.

Fire/Dark - Demon, little devil.

Also I think we should name our 'games' so we can later focus on what the legendary theme can be. So come up with a well known pairing along the lines of 'alpha and omega' or 'sun and moon'.

Good ideas, though I'm shying a little bit from the Fire/Dark, considering Incineroar.

So, I'm going to agree with the title thing.

Well if we have a Grass/Fairy (as is the majority rn) I think a Fire/Fairy might be a bit redundant. I like the Fire/Ice typing though, that could make for some interesting design.

So uhm, in what order are we going to do things just now? I'm a bit confused what we are working towards at the moment. I mean, are we going to name our game first, establish all of the pokemon designs and typings first, or work out our dryad grass starter first?

Why can't we do all of them?

Sword and Shield
Up and Down
Lost and Found
Cloak and Dagger
Sweet and Sour (I like this one)

I think we should build up a partial Dex of ideas first rather than create an entire Pokemon one at a time. So first three:
001-Forest nymph (Grass)
002-Forest nymph (Grass)
003-Dryad (Grass/Fairy)

Fire starter ideas next. I've submitted mine.
